The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMAS) is the recognized agency to enforce maritime regulations including security as well as licensing and monitoring security companies. However, the Nigerian Law has not yet empowered NIMASA to carry arms. Therefore, the Nigerian Navy (NN) supports NIMASA with armed team where such is required. The modalities are spelt out in an MOU between the NN and NIMASA.
